New York Days 1 and 2

Well it's official. We have been in NYC for 1 whole day and let me tell ya, the longer I am here, the better it gets. Yesterday was an interesting first day. Let me explain.

We fly out of Denver bright and early at 6 am and arrive at the LaGuardia airport around 1:30 pm. We get a taxi to the hotel. Rony our taxi driver was not feelin' us apparently. Eric tried chatting it up with him when we got in the taxi and he was not having it. Oh well. His loss. Weirdo.

The hotel room we are in is a bit smaller than we had expected. However, it will do. Let me give you a short virtual tour
(sorry for saying "little" 800 times. I apparently really like using that word to describe anything regardless of it's true size).

Two months of literally living out of a suitcase since we don't have many hangers or dresser space.

Once we got everything situated in the room, we went out into Brooklyn to explore and familiarize ourselves. We started by finding me some foodies since I was a cranky and hungry girl! We chose this $0.99 pizza place our friend Jeff told us about. We got there. Ordered 3 slices of pizza. Handed over our debit card. REJECTED! Cash only it turns out. Lame. We walked away and ate at Subway.
Oh and did I mention that this area we went into was S-K-E-T-C-H my friends? I was scurrrrred. Lots. I've lived a sheltered life apparently and I am whimpy. Yep, I admit it.

Next stop...Montegue Street on the other side of Brooklyn. This place = less scary. But in place of scariness was trashiness. Not people, but rather literally trash! Piles and piles and piles of it. Who knew NY was so nasty and dirty and smelly. NOT ME! The movies are so lame. They fool you.
I took a picture of this loveliness so you all could see the true joys of many NY streets.

I came home literally feeling like I smelt like trash. It was disgusting. Cuddling was definitely foregone. Thanks a lot trash.
This day left me feeling a bit out of place, scared out of my mind, and smelly.

Day two was a huge improvement. My goal for the day was to go out on my own, and realize I was going to survive! Congratulations to me, I did survive! And I managed to have some fun along the way.

First, I met up with Eric for lunch. We successful got pizza from the $0.99 shop. woot woot!  It was delicious and well worth my few dollars.

I also go to meet a few of his co-workers/friends. After a short hour lunch, they were back to work. Meaning I was back on my own. Once Eric got up from the bench, this nice Brooklyn native sat down next to me. We chatted it up for a while and let me tell ya, those Brooklyn accents are tricky my friends! I had a hard time understanding him at first and kept saying
"huh?"
"What's that?"
All the while I was thinking "I promise I'm not retarded! I'm just a newbie around here!"
He was cool though and dealt with me and all my Brooklyn related questions. Thank you Steven Weber for being my first Brooklyn friend!

Next stop: DUMBO "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass"
I managed to walk down to this quaint little place and boy am I glad I did. So beautiful and cute.

I found the Brooklyn Bridge Park which had killer views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn & Manhattan Bridges.

I hung around the park for a while and then wandered up and down the streets where I stopped at this "supposedly" delicious chocolate place called Jacques Torres Chocolates. I heard the frozen hot chocolate was diviiinnnne. I disagree. It was WAYYY too chocolatey for me. Like woah! in my face chocolatey. And I like chocolate people. I promise.

Here she is. Chocolate overload!

I didn't buy anything else, but I think I'll make a second stop there to try just the plain chocolate candies and such. Those I'm sure I will love.

Finally, I found my new love. A little shop called West Elm.
I.LOVE.IT!
Beyond cute. I left a pile of drool behind I was loving it so much.

It has the cutest modern house decor and I can guarantee I'm coming home with my bedding from here.

I mean how cute is that yellow striped bedding?! I know.

I ended the day with watching 3 episodes of Glee while Eric socialized down in the ballroom and snuck me food up to the room every now and then. He's the best.

2 days down...54 to go.

Love, The Smiths
